CLICK HERE to go to the website for Howard Dean's NASCAR Busch Series Racer!!!

THIS is why we're going to win this thing, right here. This is COOL beyond measure!!!

Here's what the website says:

Friends of Howard Dean have decided that the NASCAR Busch Series is the perfect vehicle by which to enhance the popularity and exposure of Howard Dean during his run for the Presidency. A presence in this series will also give his army of supporters a media forum to use to connect with the millions of race fans who are also potential voters.

The NASCAR Busch Series, which is nationally broadcast for thirty-four weekends a year on both television and radio, is the second highest rated form of racing on television.

The exposure gained from a presence in NASCAR will give Dean volunteers an opportunity to connect with large numbers of incredibly loyal race fans.

The primary goal of Team Dean Racing is twofold. This organization would like to both educate the fans on the views and positions of Howard Dean and would also like to encourage those race fans who do not normally vote, into voting for the first time in 2004.

All Howard Dean supporters are encouraged to volunteer to help at upcoming events in conjunction with NASCAR events throughout the country.

The Team Dean Racing No. 84 Chevrolet will be driven by Busch Series veteran and Long Island, New York native Brian Weber.

I just got on Lou Dobbs' show, on CNN!

Well, not ME, per se, but this letter that I wrote....

You see, it all started because this Republican PAC called "Club for Growth" (yes, I know it sounds like a club for balding guys -- and maybe it is! -- but they're mainly a political money house that puts out TV ads) put out an ad in Iowa that shows an older couple going into a diner. An offscreen voice asks them what they think of Howard Dean, and the man responds:

"Howard Dean should take his tax-hiking, government-expanding, latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Times-reading ..." before the woman then finishes: "... body piercing, Hollywood-loving, left-wing freak show back to Vermont, where it belongs."

Well, I read about this and thought it was pretty bad, but hey, this is politics, sometimes PACs can be nasty animals. Myself, I'm not big on latte or Volvos, and I don't know Hollywood from a hole in the ground, but I do love some good fresh sushi. Yum.

Anyway, I didn't think much else of it until Lou Dobbs made it his "quote of the day," showing it and reading it on the air. I was so annoyed by this, that I wrote him a letter, in which I basically said that this sort of characterization isn't right, and shouldn't be encouraged. As part of my letter I wrote:

I am tempted to respond that, "I think that George W. Bush should take his deficit creating, government expanding, oil-mongering, family-farm-decimating, environment destroying, ideology-driven, corporate scandal-ignoring, White House leak-permitting, right-wing freakshow back to Texas, where it belongs."

So imagine my surprise when, just happening down to eat a sandwich I flip on the boob tube, and there is Lou Dobbs reading a response from Amy Letter of San Francisco California, which then fills the screen:

"I think that George W. Bush should take his deficit-creating, government-expanding, oil-mongering, family-farm-decimating, environment-destroying, ideology-driven, corporate scandal-ignoring, White House leak-permitting, right-wing freakshow back to Texas, where it belongs."

I positively FROZE. Then I called my dad. He was very proud of me!

YAY!

I've had some trouble with my blog since New Year's Eve, when I attempted to post a nice image of some fireworks, and was thwarted by an uncooperative blogging system. Hopefully things are better now!

THE BIG NEWS is that the ad that I wrote for the Bush in 30 Seconds contest is a finalist! That means it's in the final 15 (out of over 1,000 competing entries!) and that it will be judged by Michael Moore, Jeneane Garofalo, Moby, James Carville, and all those other judges. Even if it doesn't win, I'm totally psyched that those famous dudes are going to watch something I wrote! It's pretty damn cool!!!!

In celebration, I'm providing links to other great animations done by Eric Blumrich, the genius behind the ad project (click the all-caps NAMES of the videos to watch them!):

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES is a sweet reminiscence of US tool, Saddam Hussein.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED is the stunning ad that Dennis Kucinich picked up for his campaign, and which subsequently made Eric the subject of death threats -- requiring the intervention of Kucinich himself to stop. It's an amazing piece of work.

and finally, HE'S A NAZI, the most hilarious video in internet history, starring Rush Limbaugh.

ENJOY everyone, and keep your fingers crossed for me re: the Bush in 30 contest!

With love, from me to you!
